  • Lovejoy Bakers: Best new Bakery in Portland

The space on this corner of NW Lovejoy and 10th Ave. has been cursed for a long time - we've seen many restaurants come and go from this spot. Lovejoy Bakers is here to stay. I'm a coffee addict and breakfast is one of my favorite meals of the day. I'm always on the lookout for the new / best breakfast spot and this is my new favorite. They serve excellent coffee - a must in Portland. They bake everything on the premise - so the shop smells like heaven. I've eaten the scones and breakfast sandwiches and everything has been aces. This is a great place for a leisurely, yet quick breakfast - they have free wi-fi, so it's not a bad place to do a little work or Facebooking, chose your poison. Try this bakery - it's awesome!

  • The Meadows: Passionate owners make this place shine

We spent an evening at The Meadows for a friend's birthday party - we had a private group take over the little shop on NE Mississippi for a chocolate, salt and wine tasting party. The owner of the shop is extremely passionate about salt and chocolate - which may sound a little crazy, but after spending an evening with him we have been converted. I'll never buy salt from the grocery store again - get all your salt and chocolate from this shop from now on and you won't be sorry. I'm a big fan of wine and after drinking it seriously for 5 years I know can distinguish different varietals, but I never knew that chocolate and salt can have such distinct flavors when you try different types. My world has officially been rocked - pun intended.
