  1. Must see!

Powell's was definitely one of the highlights of my trip to Portland! I will never look at Barnes & Noble the same way. Multiple floors filled with both well-known, just released titles as well as a great selection of used books. I'd never been in a bookstore that needed a MAP to show you where to go to get to the right section! Crazy, but so great. Definitely a must-see!

  2. Best bookstore ever

I can spend a whole day at Powell's books. If you are a book lover, and even if you aren't - this is a must-see.
They have maps of the bookstore, which I would recommend because if you are not familiar with the store - you will get lost!

  4. Parking at Powell's

I travel from out of town and always have a rental car but it's never easy parking downtown. In the past I've walked several blocks to Powell's until I discovered their parking garage. If you make ANY purchase, you will get free parking for up to an hour. Great deal!

  5. Book Paradise

A "must visit" if you're going to Portland. Go early and stay a long time - you'll need the time to get past the sensory overload when you walk in. Start at the top and work down - you can't get out without a treasure.

  6. Amazing Book Store

You could easily spend an entire day in this incredible book store. The inventory of both new and used books is comprehensive and well organized. Everyone in our family left the store with a stack of books. Since I left Portland I've ordered books from them online becaue their prices beat those that I was able to find elsewhere.

  7. Give yourself plenty of time - this place is huge!

Heard people rave about their trips to Powell's Books for years; to hear some of them talk, it verged on a religious pilgrimage! Finally made it myself in March 2010, and I am already planning my next trip! Found a lot of great deals on new and used books throughout the entire store. The rare book room is a treat if you like to gaze upon a $6,000 first edition of "The Hobbit". Make sure and allocate lots of time - I only made it into 5 of the sections in the hour and half I was there. The staff was very friendly AND knowledgeable; not only could they direct you to the correct section to find an author/subject, but they could also give you recommendations for similar authors which might be of interest. A great place to by birthday and Christmas presents, as well as stock your personal bookshelf.

  8. Best bookstore in the world!

Powell's used to be one of our fav places to go when we visit Portland. Now we have two young kids so it is a little stressful. The coffee shop is awesome and the selection is incredible. You actually get a map of the store so you don't get lost. They really have everything you can imagine. I could get lost in here for hours... actually I think I have. If you go with a friend or partner, take a cell phone so you can find each other. Definately must go if you have the time.

  9. While in Portland...

While in Portland, be sure to visit Powell's Books on Burnside.
We go there every time we visit...and be sure to be ready to spend at least a couple of hours. They have a super map to guide you throughout the place and you'll need it...the place is huge.
