  1. Other review is BS

The review below is nearly verbatim from LeRae's website.

Our experience with LeRae basically involved her canceling on us at the last minute because she could make more money doing individual walks rather than doing the 24 hour overnight stays with our dog that she'd agreed to do a month beforehand. The best part about it was that not only did she openly admit that to me, she then later claimed that the reason was that my dog was too challenging. Now, my dog IS challenging, but after a 20 minute telephone convo, an hour long meet & greet, and detailed email instructions sent 3 weeks before, she knew that already and agreed to do it anyway. If she really thought our dog was too challenging, she would have mentioned it more than 43 hours before we were set to leave. The truth is the reason she gave me before - that she could make more money doing individual walks. She also took no responsibility in trying to find us a replacement, and if we hadn't found someone (a mere 8 hours prior to departure - non-refundable tix) thanks to the efforts of April at HotDiggity and Grayson White and a number of other sitters who themselves were unavailable (and horrified by the unprofessionalism, irresponsibility and greed LeRae exhibited in canceling on us), we would have missed a wedding, my family dinner on Christmas, visiting my husband's family, and wedding dress shopping with my best friend at Kleinfeld's.
If we'd had to cancel our plans we would have been out about $2k in airfare. I let LeRae know I would take her to small claims if she didn't do anything to rectify the situation, and in response, she sent me a disclaimer claiming that she reserves the right to cancel whenever, for whatever reason. Someone should define "disclaimer" for her (it's nowhere on her website, she never stated it orally and I never received any paperwork). Oral agreements are still agreements.

So basically, LeRae is greedy, irresponsible and unreliable, doesn't care about pets OR people, is a hypocrite, and nearly canceled Christmas. And apparently she's having people write fake reviews for her. I would never recommend her.

Also, LeRae - please stop calling yourself a New Yorker. You're giving us a bad name.

  2. Review for Recess in the Pearl

When LeRae was four she fell in love with a dog outside of school. When her mother, Carol, came down from her PTA meeting, the dog was sitting in the car ready to go home. Luckily, Carol was as big of a sucker for dogs so the only child got a new friend. Sis became her best friend and was ever so loyal since being rescued from a life of abandonment. Sis went to kindergarten with LeRae and then saw her off to college. Tears swell up as LeRae speaks of her favorite companion. Her love for dogs is stronger than ever and the support of giving dogs, like Sis a home, is the foundation for Recess in the Pearl.

Recess in the Pearl is a dog walking and in~home boarding service started in September by a local Pearl resident, LeRae Hunt. After finding her dream job in New York City as a part time dog walker, it made perfect sense to come home and move the leash out west.

Recess in the Pearl stands apart from other like services, due to its service standards and approach to dog walking. A meet and greet is set up to get to know your dog in its environment to learn about all the quirks that only the owner would know. You will have an opportunity to discuss previous dog walking and boarding experiences, as well as what happened over the weekend. The walker should become well acquainted with your dog and the owner as they will be spending time together. Having a small service versus an agency allows you to know who is with your dog. Each walk is personalized to fit your dog's routine and schedule. "It's the dogs walk, if he wants to spend 5 minutes smelling a bush, that's what we'll do."

In an effort to support the rescue agencies that make a huge difference in the Portland area, fifty cents from each walk is donated to local pet rescue missions. LeRae is currently involved with Oregon Dog Rescue and The Pixie Project and rotates the receiving organization monthly. "I learn about an new organization all the time, and it's important to support everyone with this cause." In addition to the donation of each walk if you are an owner of a rescue dog, a dollar is deducted from your walk price as a thank you for giving a dog a home.

Recess in the Pearl is proud to be a member of the Pearl District Business Association by working and living in the community. LeRae has traveled the world as an international flight attendant and to her; this is where her heart belongs. "I love the neighborhood and it is wonderful to finally find the dream job where I can be here all the time."
