Art studios all around metro Portland

I forgot to mention that the art studios aren't just in Portland but go from North Portland on the north to West Linn in the south and from Beaverton to Happy Valley east and west. The maps are really helpful. Just make sure that you see which artists are open both weekends and which are only open one.

A chance to see artists at work

This happens on the next 2 weekends (oct 10, 11, 17, & 18). I have visited the studios in other years. It is a great way to learn about art. The artists are friendly and willing to share info with you. They are at work, so you get to see how they do it. Don't be afraid to ask questions. Even seasoned art lovers learn new things about the making of art, maybe a new material or technique. It is all media so you can follow your specific interests- like printmaking or fabric art or glass, or abstract painting, for example, or go visit a neighborhood and see everything in that area. Don't miss the gardens, or notice the artistic flair of the houses. The big industrial studios with all that equipment has its own charm, too.

The only thing I didn't like is that time goes by too quickly and there isn't enough time to see everybody. If you can go more than one day it not only makes it an even more incredible bargain but you can cover more ground.

I recommend that you get the Tour Guide early enough to study it and chart out your trip on the provided map. One picture from each artist is in the tour guide as well as maps and 2 tickets good for all days. It is a great bargain at $15 for 2 tickets for all days and kids are free.

I love the Tour Guide itself -- pictures of 100 artworks and this year a calendar for 2010.
