We read about Pok Pok in Saveur Magazine and just had to try it. There was a long wait, which we expected (since they don't take reservations) and the service sucked (rude waitstaff, had to ask for water, etc.), but the food and price made up for it. The offerings were all very good, and there were some unusual things (wild boar!). My husband and I had 3 entrees, 2 coffee, a tall beer, 2 orders of rice and dessert between us and it cost only $46! That was the best meal we've had for the value for as long as we can remember. We went in January, when it was in the 40s, so it was a bit cold sitting on the patio, but again, well worth it.
Also, check out the Whiskey Soda Lounge. That place had such great ambience, music, decor, drinks, and waitstaff! We had heard rumors that Pok Pok owned the bar across the street, and that you could wait there for your table, but were pleasantly surprised and greatly impressed with it - not your ordinary bar.

Dive into a platter of fish-sauce chicken wings at Pok Pok in Southeast Portland. This purveyor of pan-Asian street food is a locally (and nationally) adored for its vivid flavors and fresh combinations.

Service was poor. We had to ask for water, which had been removed from the table. A waitress had to be stopped just to order tea. The meanu is very limited. We had to ask for rice long after good was served. We were ignored after food was placed on the table. Food was mediocre. We've had better tasting Thai food in Portland restaurants with much less notoriaty with better service, and better atmosphere. Don't be impressed with "The place to go." Taste the food, observe the service, and judge for yourself. We wouldn't go back and it cost $146.00. They added an 18% gratuity, which I know we would never have given them.
