It may not look like much on the outside, but Old Wives Tales has some seriously great stuff going on inside. I've gone for breakfast (German pancake with lemon sauce = amazing) and lunch and have never left hungry or disappointed. The prices are a little higher than I'd like to pay for a sandwich ($11-13ish), but the flavors make up for setting aside budget restraints for the day.
A big plus for many in the Portland area, is that they have a large variety of gluten free (almost 90% of their menu), vegetarian and vegan options (even dessert). They are famous for their Hungarian Mushroom soup and for good reason: it's incredible. Savory and creamy, the soup has made it to my plate every visit, and I have no intention of changing that habit. It's a large enough place that you can bring many people, but it's popular so make sure to make reservations beforehand. Happy eating!

Seems like there are no good salad bars anymore ... but if you love salad bar ... this is the best in Portland. Fresh speciality items including tofu, humus, sprouts, house made dressings and SOUP! Always Hungarian Mushroom, which they are famous for and one other special selection of soup. So, the salad bar is great, but you can litterly go here anytime (breakfast is extremely good too!) and you will find something wonderful to eat. A very diverse menu - Also there is a great space for children.

The playroom is what I like least about this restaurant, and it's still a really cool place to play! I love that the children are automatically served orange slices, along with a picture and crayons and their very own tiny cup of water. There are several options for children on the menu, from tofu scramble to natural hot dogs and healthy mac & cheese. Kids under a certain age can also share the salad and soup bar with parents. Wait staff is attentive and friendly. Food is healthy and tastes GREAT! Don't miss the Hungarian Mushroom soup!
